Gout Pain Relief - Can Gout Actually Be Good For You?

afflicted with

If you're beginning to notice symptoms of gout, or you're already afflicted with the condition, it's not the end of the world. In fact, is it possible that gout will actually be good for you? Quite possibly, so let's take a closer look...

Why People Get Gout

Gout is a form of arthritis that affects mainly men, beginning in their mid to late 40's and beyond. Much like any form of arthritis, there is a swelling of the joints, particularly one or both of the big toes. Joints become inflamed, painful to the touch, and very uncomfortable.

The condition progresses in stages. Mild symptoms occur, usually some mild swelling and discomfort. An attack may happen occasionally, which is a 48 to 72 period of increased swelling and pain. Advanced gout is more or less a constant condition.

Can Gout Be Helpful To You?

While it seems outlandish to suggest such a chronic and painful condition may be good for you, there is an underlying truth to the statement. Except in rare cases, you can control gout yourself. So what do we mean when we say gout might be helpful to you?

What it means is this. The onset of gout symptoms should be a wake up call. To be frank, most people immediately reach for a pill when the condition begins to manifest itself. Instead, the best first step is to take a long, hard look in the mirror.

Your Personal Habits And Gout

Your personal health habits are the biggest cause of this painful condition. Chances are you aren't following a proper health regimen, and further, it is likely gout isn't the only health problem you're facing. Let's illustrate with a personal story.

We have a good friend, actually my old college roommate, who is now approaching his 50th birthday. Around the age of 46, he began to experience symptoms of gout. After about six months of intermittent attacks, he took control. Up until then, he led a sedentary lifestyle, rarely exercising and eating and drinking whatever he wanted.

Over the last four years, he has lost 50 pounds and now exercises regularly, usually five times per week. He has increased his water intake and eats a much more balanced diet. Bottom line, he has all but defeated the condition. Symptoms rarely return and he hasn't experienced an attack in two years.

Suffice it to say, in the long run the onset of gout symptoms were very helpful to our friend. He has eliminated his high blood pressure, significantly reduced his cholesterol problem, and has more energy and a better outlook on life.

Summary

Obviously, no one wants to be afflicted with gout. But whether you're just starting to experience symptoms or have suffered for years, use it as a wake up call.

Take control of your health. Gout can be controlled, and if you do so, chances are you'll resolve other nagging health issues too.
