Most of us have suffered from back muscle pain. There are various reasons, which can give rise to back pain. In this article, we will read about the causes and treatment for pain in back muscle.


Pain in the back can be classified as upper back muscle pain, middle back muscle pain and lower back muscle pain. The most common among them is the lower back pain. According to statistics, about 90% of the people do suffer from it at some point of time in life. Any kind of back pain often tends to have some kind of underlying reasons, it is mostly difficult to figure one out of it. If a person suffers from back pain for 15 days to a month, it is classified as acute back pain. While if a patient suffers from back pain for an extended period of time, it is termed as chronic back muscle pain.

It is a known fact that muscles contract and relax alternately during bodily movement. Contraction and relaxation of muscles is a normal phenomenon, essential for proper movement. A person is said to suffer from spasms when the muscle contract involuntarily and become stiff. The back area is the common site where these uncontrolled muscle contractions occur. This condition in which muscles contract abnormally and do not relax temporarily, can trigger moderate to severe pain. Back muscle spasms that causes tightening of muscles can be a cause of great discomfort, especially during activities like picking a pencil lying on the floor.
